What Makes Art Good?

Good art is merely defined as being a piece of art that you cannot keep looking at. A piece of art is successful if as you remain in the room with it, your eye is drawn to it over and over again. Art is for the eye, it's only purpose is to draw one's eye. Good art pleases, it makes you feel good. If is is colorful, it's colors are a joy to behold. If it is whimsical, it makes you smile. A piece of art is good when you never every tire of looking at it. Do you have art in your possession that makes you feel this way?

Athough My Art Seems Completely Abstract Each Painting Represents Something Concrete

I had someone say to me the other day that my art was abstract, merely colors, and I told him no, each painting is Something, you just have to look it a little longer than the normal painting, for that something to come up. A case in point is my Coming Out painting, at first glance it appears to be merely a swirl of pink, but if you study it, the image will come up. The image is of a slender man, a boy really sitting up against the trunk of a tree, you can see his knees bent and he is holding a purple flower in his hands, He has a big flop of hair and if you look between his bent knees you can also see his mothers face also looking at the flower that her boy is holding. Each of my painting are the same thing and my paintings are never compete until they are something. If you are having trouble finding that something a good tip off is the title. I give away the subject in each title. My painting also contain many hidden complex images and the longer you look at the painting the more they will appear to you.

Hunger Hurts But Has a Joyful Remedy to Cure

As we move into the season of plenty, bountiful food is ever present and is the centerpiece of all celebrations. At this time we see much talk of the hungry and all sorts of special Christmas dinners for those without means. Let us not forget the human body requires food approximately every 4 to 5 waking hours. It does not run on a holiday schedule. All food is good, and food should be allowed to be given freely without any kind of government restrictions. Painting Possum is a Nocturnal Animal Like It's Namesake.

Looking at my new painting Possum for the last couple of nights and I see that it comes alive at night. Now it is pretty viewed in daylight, but at night it glows like jewel with an inner radiance that compels the eye to it like a magnet. My painting are abstract and the feeling of the painting is what the painting is about, and even though I have never seen a possum in person,the painting was just, a possum. When I awaken this morning it dawns on (get it dawns on me) I think aren't possums nocturnal animals? I google it and yes indeed they are nocturnal animals. So once again I am amazed things, are much curiouser in this earthy life than most of us realize. When the painting feels to be a possum and that painting comes alive at night just like a possum, well that is too cool for words. I like it, I like it a lot. Yin Yang is the balance of opposing forces, for without the opposite of itself, nothing can be defined. After much spiritual work I now see that even though opposites exist to measure, the only true reality is good and everything exists to define it.

This Is Not Your Grandparents Art And That is Good!. It's 2015, Let's Let Go of The Past and Embrace the Future.

On the very eve of the year 2015, (I find that number incredible even as I type it here), appreciated art needs to catch up to the future it is being created in. The past is past and in order to evolve all around must evolve and keep with current trends and energy. Just as in Rembrandts Rembrandt time, cave drawings were not seen as the holy grail, we need to stop seeing Rembrandt in the year 2015, as the holy grail. Always, always to move forward is good, to dwell in the past, not healthy. So is it the future? I always thought the year 2015 would be so when I was younger. Thinking back to my youth and imagining my home in the year 2015, what kind of pictures would I expect to see on that futuristic date? What kind of pictures would I want on my wall in 2015. I know I always want to learn and feel and experience new things. I have done the old things bring on the newKathy Mitro
 This particular painting I titled Marriage. It is the marriage of the old and the new in Art. The old a knight bridegroom, with a happy go lucky look on his face. The new an alien bride with a pious sour look on her face as she appears to sacrifice herself to this marriage. The preacher is a beautiful purple horse of some sort seen on the left hand side of the painting. If you look beside the couple you will see a candle lit for the marriage ceremony throwing light on the union. You will also see a wedding guest at the very bottom of the left hand side of the painting. Most important of all if you look carefully at the bottom right hand side of the painting, right below the couple, you will see the future child of the marriage an animal curled in sleep and waiting to be born. Look for his eye first and his shape should become apparent to you. As it is set in a futuristic setting the future is absorbing the old and by the fusion of marriage, evolving into the now.
