This painting shows a man in servile humility as attested by his pose.
Between his bent legs you see his head with eyes downcast, hoping against hope that he is worthy.
The bowed head can be perceived two different ways.
One is a face with a beard twisted off to the side in agony.
The unworthiness is torture for him.
The other is a round simple face seeming to do what he merely thinks is right of him,to kneel in supplication in the station he thinks he deserves.
