The dissolution of the illusion is the simple concept behind Enlightenment, Awakening and Self-Realization which are just three different terms for the same event.
In simplistic terms (when in reality self-realization is the simplest thing ever) it merely means to see your true self.
The world we think we live in and breathe in and walk around in is merely an illusion.
In Buddhist terms it is called Maya meaning false reality.
Our true self merely projects the illusion of a world and indeed of a life.
Each lifetime we live is always a step towards dissolving the illusion, realizing the illusion for what it is and seeing our true self once again.

How did the alligator win his enlightenment?
He emerged from the darkness of the Maya by merely knowing he is the light -he always has been the light and he always will be the light.
He has just been fooling himself.
