About Myself

Coming Out - Mitro
Lives in Daytona Beach, Florida
Born 1953
I am an abstract expressionist artist deeply concerned with ending hunger here in the United States and abroad.
My art is very metaphysical and comes from the unconscious creation of soul.
I love color and just looking at colors brings me joy and makes me happy. Good art makes one feel.
I love life and consider each day a blessing.
Painting makes me feel very good, and to look on my finished creation brings me much pleasure.
I had someone say to me the other day that my art was abstract, merely colors, and I told him no, each painting is "something", you just have to look it a little longer than the normal painting, for that something to come up.
A case in point is my Coming Out painting, at first glance it appears to be merely a swirl of pink, but if you study it, the image will come up.
The image is of a slender man, a boy really sitting up against the trunk of a tree, you can see his knees bent and he is holding a purple flower in his hands, He has a big flop of hair and if you look between his bent knees you can also see his mothers face also looking at the flower that her boy is holding.
Each of my painting are the same, and my paintings are never compete until they are something.
If you are having trouble finding that something a good tip off is the title. I give away the subject in each title.
My painting also contain many hidden complex images and the longer you look at the painting the more they will appear to you.
With the exception of 4 of my paintings I never start a painting with any intention whatsoever  of what I wish to paint.
That is why the subject matter of my paintings are so incredibly diverse.
I merely add paint to the canvas with rag or brush, make slashes with oil crayons and voila a painting comes up which I enhance after I know where the canvas is taking me.
A large portion of the money received for sale of my art goes to hunger relief, as I believe there is nothing more essential than enough food for all.
Even the beauty of art cannot be appreciated when one is in pain from a hunger.
Hunger hurts and is the easiest of pain to remedy and it's remedy is joyous and feels good, like good art

5 New Art Genres You (Probably) Never Knew Existed.

de Kooning

Ode to my Best Friend Patty Lou - Mitro

 1. Soft Abstract Expressionism-  Leading Artist Katheleen Mitro   Katheleen Mitro

This genre of art uses beautiful colors and soft flowing lines to create playful almost cartoon like characters telling a storyline on one storyboard, the canvas.
Soft Abstract is a gentler offshoot of traditional Abstract Expressionism made famous by de Kooning, de Kooning,  Pollock , Pollock and Rothko Rothko
Soft abstract lets the painting come up with no intention to create anything definite. Paint and crayons are applied to the canvas in various smears and lines letting whatever picture that wants to emerge to emerge.  Soft Abstract Expressionism  Soft Abstract Expressionism

2. Binary Sculptor - Leading artist Koogz

Coining the phrase ‘Binary Sculptor” Koogz’ Koogz art delves into the portion of life usually left unnoticed.  A kind of modern day Michelangelo Michelangelo his art is a combination of objects with their essence contained and then manipulated with the intent of bringing out the unseen characteristics that lie deeper.
A culmination of the theories related to the science of quantum; the behaviors of small particles and the space with which they reside
“Binary” is the language of computers based in math, and it is in the shadows of the binary the imagery challenging what is seen in our limited spectrum is then revealed.

“I am equally observer as creator” as the images unfold and what is revealed is much a surprise to me as anyone as seen in my series titled “Of Hearts & Wings" http://www.koogz.net/

3. Digital Painting
Digital painting Digital Painting  is a method of creating an art object (painting) digitally and/or a technique for making digital art in the computer. As a method of creating an art object, it adapts traditional painting medium such as acrylic paint, oils, ink, watercolor, etc. and applies the pigment to traditional carriers, such as woven canvas cloth, paper, polyester etc. by means of computer software driving industrial robotic or office machinery (printers). As a technique, it refers to a computer graphics software program that uses a virtual canvas and virtual painting box of brushes, colors and other supplies. The virtual box contains many instruments that do not exist outside the computer, and which give a digital artwork a different look and feel from an artwork that is made the traditional way.

4.  Graffiti Art - Leading Artist  Banksy Banksy

Girl with Pearl Earring by Banksy
Street culture and graffiti are well-known for being provocative, appealing, bold and uncompromising. Originally used by gangs to mark their territory in some urban area, graffitis have now become a rich medium for unrestricted expression of ideas and statements. In fact, creative designers and artists across the globe use this form of art to deliver their message and showcase their work. -

5. Photorealism Art- Leading Artist Richard Estes Richard Estes
Beginning in the 1960s, the photorealist movement sought to create shockingly lifelike images, usually in imitation of actual photographs. By copying even the tiniest detail a camera could record, photorealist artists were able to produce “an image of an image of life.” The movement, also known as Super-realism or Hyperrealism, encompassed sculpture as well as painting and was heavily influenced by the contemporary pop art movement. But while pop art ironically removed commercial images from their context, photorealism focused on the power of ordinary, everyday life, recreated as accurately as possible.
Influential photorealist artists include Richard Estes, Audrey Flack, Robert Bechtle, Chuck Close, and sculptor Duane Hanson, who have all produced art amazingly realistic enough to leave you questioning if your whole life has been a lie. The movement is usually not a hit with art critics, who often believe it elevates sheer mechanical proficiency over ideas and style.- John ForbesEstes_tkts_LinePhoto credit: Richard Estes

What Makes an Artists Work Valuable

In order for any artist to succeed in the art world they must have a unique artistic style that is recognizable as theirs and theirs alone.
Just as what value in a van Gogh work, if all  of his pictures were a different style, and one could not look at one and say, oh that's a van Gogh!
An artist that paints realistically for that reason has much less chance of making his work extremely valuable.
If the painting looks exactly like the subject, where is the artists stamp on it?
I am not saying impossible for such a realist painter to make a big name, but much harder for them.
Even the quirky artists Jeff Koons have a certain style.
If you and your art lack such a style it will be hard for you to make it big.
If you copy others styles instead of forging a brand new path, it will also be virtually impossible to make a name for yourself, that name is already made by the person you have copied.
You must have something in your art that makes you stand out in a crowd, even if it is something the majority of the population hates. Just having people talk about your work with passion whether it is geeze I  really hate that, or wow I absolutely love that,it is giving you your 15 minutes of fame that can be parlayed into long term fame in something as completely  random as the art world.
Art and artists can achieve great fame just by thought provoking titles on their work as attested by Hirst.
But you gotta have something,
Heart - Mitro
some unique quirk that sets you apart from the crowd.

Soft Abstract Expressionism Art The Wave of The Future

Circus - Mitro
Cross - Mitro
Soft Abstract Expressionism Art is a story told abstractly in a futuristic way. Soft abstract art is a shoot off from abstract expressionism art which almost always told a story boldly. Soft is beautiful colors which seem to blend into the canvas flowing into forms that tell a story. Nothing easy about seeing it at first glance, it takes a lot of  studying  to even see the forms at first, but when you see them they never go away, almost like those old pictures that if you looked one way you would see a beautiful woman but when you studied it, it became a ugly old woman. It was a study in contrasts or an optical illusion. Nothing is given away  in soft abstract expressionism without contemplation.  If you look at this painting circus above (this is not a finished painting just a work in progress) you will see a clown up at the top of the canvas (or at least most people will), look closer and you will see the jack in the box staring up adoringly  at the clown and look even closer and you will see a lovely little girl in pink and pigtails dreaming of the circus with a circus tent above her head. In the picture Cross
you at first glance see a golden cross, now look closer and you will see that cross morphing into an angelfish as two observers watch it morph. Now the feel of this is all softly dreamy, that is what soft abstract expressionism is. Is is a soft story, soft lines blending into each other. The abstract comes in as the figures are well figurative, they represent rather than photograph the story to you. Blended muted lines that melt into the canvas, a suggestion of background by blots of beautiful color, which lets the viewer fill in the background with their own eye in  their  own way, and see the picture differently from everyone else viewing it. This is soft abstract expressionism art.

What Makes Art Good?

Good art is merely defined as being a piece of art that you cannot keep looking at. A piece of art is successful if as you remain in the room with it, your eye is drawn to it over and over again. Art is for the eye, it's only purpose is to draw one's eye. Good art pleases, it makes you feel good. If is is colorful, it's colors are a joy to behold. If it is whimsical, it makes you smile. A piece of art is good when you never every tire of looking at it. Do you have art in your possession that makes you feel this way?

So This is Christmas

Let us all focus today on what we want like small children who just know everything they wish for is possible on Christmas morning. Allow ourselves to feel the utter joy of getting exactly what we want in life and savoring the moment of rapture. Let the children who the magic of Christmas flows through show us the way. Unexpected Acts of Kindness are the Light to Turn Off the Evil of Isis

I saw one the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen last night coming from Ferguson Missouri and one that was totally unexpected. Night after night I watch only the violence unfolding, and how can peace be won , with violence used as the means. Violence is dark, and cannot be overcome with more dark, violence only enlarges the darkness. But I digress, the picture was of a young black boy hugging a white police officer in full uniform. This child, or should I say man, because he showed and exemplified true light with his absolute beauty and understanding of good, is the poster child of Truth. Absolute Truth, love at all times, especially in our moments of greatest fear. This young boy did more in that single act of unexpected kindness, that beautiful hug given to someone else, to show we are all one, we all fear and need comfort no matter what our size or strength, threw our more good to the cause of racial equality than the months of violence which has taken such a toll on the cause they hope to better . Violence destroys the soul, loves heals it. All great men knew this, Martin Luther King and Jesus knew this. To throw back love even in the darkest moment of oppression is to win. Ghandi knew this, peaceful always peaceful protest, is the water chipping away at the stone. There is only one true real way to combat evil and come out victorious and that is with good. Every single act of kindness blots out darkness and allows light to shine. Each act of evil must be met with 10 acts of kindness and only then will we change our planet to one of peace. Isis is stone,it is damaged souls, it is souls that have not been exposed to kindness, it is cold and brutal and unyielding, and to match it, is to become it. To overcome it is to chip at the stone heart of it and allow kindness, and brilliant rays of beautiful compassion and love to exist where ever they can, and when ever they can. Tiny splashes of good and love that will overcome dark. We can all have a part in the banishing of terror. We can all do small unexpected acts of kindness throwing out golden rays of sun and good. Life in this physical body is fleeting but the soul is eternal. What we do in this world remains a permanent legacy to be carried with each individual's soul throughout eternity. I know that I want to carry the joy of the unexpected acts of kindness that I do, to see the light shine in another eye when out of the blue someone truly sees someone as another soul. To put a blanket over cold shoulders, to put food in a hungry mouth and to hug a person no matter what their size, when they are just as frightened as you. This young man and police officer in Ferguson are brilliant lights in our world, and we will all do well to emulate them. By Kathy Mitro http://artbykathymitro.blogspot.com/

The balance of opposing forces, for without the opposite of itself, nothing can be defined.

Yin Yang  11" by 14"

Yin Yang is the balance of opposing forces, for without the opposite of itself, nothing can be defined. After much spiritual work I now see that even though opposites exist to measure, the only true reality is good and everything exists to define it.

This Is Not Your Grandparents Art And That is Good!. It's 2015, Let's Let Go of The Past and Embrace the Future.

On the very eve of the year 2015, (I find that number incredible even as I type it here), appreciated art needs to catch up to the future it is being created in. The past is past and in order to evolve all around must evolve and keep with current trends and energy. Just as in Rembrandts Rembrandt time, cave drawings were not seen as the holy grail, we need to stop seeing Rembrandt in the year 2015, as the holy grail. Always, always to move forward is good, to dwell in the past, not healthy. So is it the future? I always thought the year 2015 would be so when I was younger. Thinking back to my youth and imagining my home in the year 2015, what kind of pictures would I expect to see on that futuristic date? What kind of pictures would I want on my wall in 2015. I know I always want to learn and feel and experience new things. I have done the old things bring on the newKathy Mitro
This particular painting I titled Marriage. It is the marriage of the old and the new in Art. The old a knight bridegroom, with a happy go lucky look on his face. The new an alien bride with a pious sour look on her face as she appears to sacrifice herself to this marriage. The preacher is a beautiful purple horse of some sort seen on the left hand side of the painting. If you look beside the couple you will see a candle lit for the marriage ceremony throwing light on the union. You will also see a wedding guest at the very bottom of the left hand side of the painting. Most important of all if you look carefully at the bottom right hand side of the painting, right below the couple, you will see the future child of the marriage an animal curled in sleep and waiting to be born. Look for his eye first and his shape should become apparent to you. As it is set in a futuristic setting the future is absorbing the old and by the fusion of marriage, evolving into the now.
